Folding-Wing Fighter
created by Joshua Moretto
The Folding-Wing Fighter is one of two aircraft based on the theories and designs of Miles Thompson. Though Thompson has a solid understanding of aeronautical engineering, this design (like its later cousin, the Retractable-Wing Aeroplane) stems from Thompson's more fanciful, intuitive feel for flying machines.
This craft was not, strictly speaking, one of Thompson's own designs. Rather, it is a German craft designed to the specifications of Doktor Friedrich Von Luft, leader of the Avionic Armada, to whom Thompson unintentionally suggested the idea as a means of efficiently storing more fighters on the hangar deck of Die Rache. Simply put, the Folding-Wing Fighter is an experimental model of the Messerchimitt 109, in which the wings were hinged to be folded into an upright position when grounded, allowing a greater number of craft to be stored in the same area.
