FAQ
Holy smokes! What the hell is this?
"Tales of the Odysseus Group" is a center for the collaborative creation of a potentially unlimited series of shared-universe pulp-adventure tales. It is a "wiki", which means it is a collection of web pages that are editable by many and sundry individuals, right from the browser. We've set up some permissions controls, but we hope this little community expands.
The Odysseus Group is our base point; the center of the web of these tales, and a jumping-off point for their development. It is a loose confederation of adventurers, scientists, explorers, and sundry motley characters, dedicated to exploring the globe, fighting evil, and advancing human knowledge. It is primarily envisioned as a sort of mutual-aid society for like-minded individuals of diverse and extraordinary talents. We've deliberately left it vague on details; this is to allow plenty of room for individuals to add their own little bits here and there.
Well, what is "pulp-adventure"?
That's a big question, for which you should see the Style Guide.
So, how does this work?
It's quite simple. To create a page, simply press the "New Page" button you can find on every page. Follow the instructions, and you'll have a new page in no time. Creating links to other pages is easy enough, simply enclose the name of another wiki page in square brackets, like [this]. Case is important, so be careful. If you put a word (or words) in brackets, but a page does not exist by that name, you create a link to a phantom page. Such links will have a dotted underline, and clicking on them will bring up the editor so that the new page of that name can be created. In this fashion, you can expand one page into any number of new topics. See Style Help for more on formatting your pages. For details on this wiki's particular rules of formatting and style, please consult the Style Guide before you begin posting.
Who's in charge?
Technically, Joshua, because he registered it. However, like any good wiki, this is a community project. The small group who started it will have moderator rights over the whole thing, but as long as everyone is playing by the rules, questions of control will remain largely irrelevant.
How'd this get started, anyway?
"Tales of the Odysseus Group" was born out of a desire to keep telling stories based on a series of roleplaying campaigns run by Ben, with Joshua, Jim, Mike, and others as the players.
Hey! I spotted a typo/mistake/abomination in someone else's story! Can I change it?
Unlike character or organization entries, narrative submissions (short stories and the like) are the domain of their authors, indicated by the byline at the top. Minor copy editing or formatting corrections are ok, but only the original author is allowed to make substantive changes. Referring to other authors' stories in your own is explicitly permitted, and is kinda the point of this wiki.
I've got a question.
That's not a question.
Can I ask a question?
Sure. You add it here by editing this page and, starting a new line, adding it, preceded by a "!" and a space. Insert new questions before the "I've got a question" non-question, so that this stays on the bottom.
